Review Offbeat 2/14
We all know the eponymous title from Earth, Wind and Fire - the month seems to inspire musicians. Almost as groovy, but without disco glitter, is the present duet, in which the marimba and piano sometimes complement and play around with flowing melody lines and contoured riffs, sometimes dance in unison and sometimes with an improvised solo (notated for the newcomer Available) plus accompaniment. Precise interaction is required in the sixteenth lines! It is also very nice how lying rolls on the marimba form the background for the decorated piano ostinato. The whole thing seems jazzy in its layout with theme, unison parts, bridges and improvisation - a successful piece with a lot of atmosphere. The service from NIRO to offer most of the pieces for listening on the homepage was also great. Uli Ertle
