The “Concert for Drumset and Orchestra” is not just a solo concert for drum sets. Rather, it creates a groovy blend between the orchestra and the drummer. However, the drummer has plenty of room for solo interludes. The orchestral sound is rhythmic, dance-like and spherical. The melodies are clear and catchy and make the work a modern pop-classical piece. The first movement begins with very clear 7/8 rhythms that also modulate to 6/8 and 4/4. Minimalist melodies change to folkloric skills, the grooves develop into drum'bass style and lead to a solo cadenza by the drummer. The second movement begins with a solo cadenza, from the orchestra onwards a solid 6/4 and 4/4 time is in the foreground, with earthy drum set grooves the drummer carries the full and warm orchestral sound. The spherical theme establishes itself through the violas and is carried on through the woodwinds. In the 3rd movement, the 3/4 and 6/8 groove provides the dancing character. At the end, a Latin feel develops. The orchestral sound builds up powerfully towards the finale and forms a furious ending in interaction with the drummer. Strings + flute, horn, bassoon, oboe.
